Thanks to everyone who made the skate comp possible tonight. We had a great time! A special shout out to Clint React Bishop and Jason Throop for helping out with the judging. And to Chris Gilbert for hooking us up with some killer prizes. I have been going back through all of our Facebook posts over the last year and keeping track of all the skaters who have prayed and given their lives to Jesus. What an amazing journey we have been on at FacePlant SkateChurch not only over this past year, but over the past six years since we first started! Check these stats out and celebrate with us:

I would also like to note that around 50 skaters made a decision to follow Christ this last year at the demo in Siletz, Oregon. The statistics above are all from our weekly FacePlant SkateChurch meetings in Vancouver, Washington. We have no idea what this next year has in store for us at FacePlant SkateChurch, but I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has invested into this awesome ministry this past year. FacePlant Summer Kick-Off with a BBQ at Victor's

To kick off the summer, we had a bunch of youth from FacePlant SkateChurch gather last night at Victor's house for a BBQ. Josh was quite the chef, cooking up a bunch of hotdogs. Victor's mom made some fajitas. We had fun just hanging out and chatting. Some of the guys had a little skate sesh, including Josh who bombed the hill near Victor's house (see video below).

Hero from Farm Project and Era Skateboards came out as well. We had a chance to talk more about how we can partner together to create a positive and productive environment for youth in the skateboarding community here in the pacific Northwest and beyond. Good stuff. I also want to let you know that I opened a YouTube account under "faceplantministries" where we will be adding new FacePlant videos. I also uploaded and archived a ton of old FacePlant skate videos. Feel free to check it out. You can get to our channel through the video below. Enjoy!

Nine Skaters Rededicate Their Lives to Christ

This last week at FacePlant SkateChurch, nine skaters came forward in the presence of their peers to say that they've been struggling with trying to have one foot in heaven and the other foot in hell. They gathered in two separate groups with James and Chad to pray and rededicate their lives to Christ. We are so proud of these guys and continue to see Jesus transform lives every week. Praise for FacePlant SkateChurch!

Small Remodel at Ripzu Skate Park

Chris Gilbert and I worked on a small remodel at Ripzu on Thursday and Friday of last week. We dismantled part of the existing street section and framed out a new hip, five stair and two hubbas. Man, this is gonna be a sweet section to skate. I'm not sure if Chris finished sheeting it all with plywood and masonite for SkateChurch this Monday, but it is a sick addition to Ripzu. Also in other news, while I was away in Thailand, after Ricky's teaching there was one young man who gave his life to Jesus and two others that rededicated their lives to Christ. I've added some other new pics to the blog below. Check out the sticker slap contest. Ricky won with a whopping 16 foot sticker slap. Crazy! Also just a quick heads up that the cost at the door to skate every Monday night at FacePlant SkateChurch will soon be going up from $4.00 due to the amount of skaters coming and the cost to run Ripzu Skate Park. Harvest Time at FacePlant SkateChurch

The fun continues at FacePlant SkateChurch on Monday nights. This past two weeks we saw seven more skaters come to Christ. 5 kids gave their lives to Christ over a week ago after James taught on Jesus calming the storm from Mark 4:35-41. We also broke up into small groups and prayed for eachother as almost all of the kids said that they had "storms" going on at home. Many, if not most of the skateboarding youth community here in Vancouver, Washington come from broken homes. So it is amazing to be able to support one another and pray for eachother at SkateChurch every week. 2 more kids made first time decisions to follow Jesus last night as Ricky spoke on the man possessed by a legion of demons from Mark 5:1-20. We are seeing a mighty harvest of youth coming to Christ. So far we have seen 25 youth come to Christ in 2011 alone. That makes at least 265 young people who have prayed to receive Jesus Christ since we started SkateChurch in 2006. To the best of my knowledge, here is the breakdown of salvations every year at SkateChurch:

Maybe it sounds a bit repetitive when we write about youth placing their faith in Jesus Christ week in and week out, but to us, this is the main reason FacePlant SkateChurch exists. Every time one of these skaters raises their hand and prays with us, inviting Jesus Christ into their lives, the angels are partying in heaven as new names are being added to the Book of Life. So we like to party with the angels over these young skaters, many of which wouldn't darken the doors of a normal church. Hope you can celebrate with us!

On another note, the guys continue to find ways to amuse themselves. They now have a game they have made up on the mini-pipe called, "Battle Royale." They all drop in and skate the mini-pipe at the same time, trying to knock eachother off their boards (it's okay parents, haven't had any injuries). The last man standing wins. Fun stuff.

Seven More Youth Come To Christ

We have really seen some amazing things take place during the 21 days of prayer and fasting at Whipple Creek Church. One thing we were specifically praying for as a church is a harvest of souls coming into the Kingdom of God. We've just recently seen seven more youth come to Christ over the past few weeks. On January 17th Zach taught from Mark 4:21-25. After his message four youth raised their hands and prayed to receive Christ. The following week, on January 24th Chad spoke on ark 4:26-29 and three more youth not only raised their hands and invited Christ into their lives, but did so publically in front of their peers. Our staff and interns are on a teaching rotation so that not one person has to have the responsibility of giving the Bible lesson every week. I am so proud of our FacePlant SkateChurch staff and applaud them for the wonderful job they are doing in studying, preparing and delivering the message week in and week out.

Please Invite People To FacePlant SkateChurch

I would like to take a moment and just ask that you would invite any skater you know to come out to FacePlant SkateChurch on Monday nights. Chris Gilbert has so graciously allowed us to use their skate park every Monday night. Our attendance seems to always fluxuate; some weeks we have 15 skaters and other weeks we have over 40 skaters. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who attends and when. One thing we really need to have in order for it to be worthwhile for Ripzu to continue to let us utilize their facilities is an attendance of at least 30 skaters at FacePlant SkateChurch every Monday night; at least if we want to keep the cost down to $4 per skater every Monday night. Ripzu Skate Park has an overhead and it has to make sense in order for them to be able to pay their lease payment and utilities. So this is just a call to invite friends to come and skate, as well as a challenge to all the regulars; if you call this your church home, please do all that you can to make it out consistantly on Monday nights, not only to keep our costs down, but because you are probably missing out on something that God has for you if you aren't getting fellowship anywhere else. We care about you and want you to continue to grow in your walk with God. There are so many times that skaters are encouraged by a teaching or by being prayed for by their peers during small group interaction. Anyhoo...hope to see you guys as much as possible. We love all of you!!! =)

11 SKATERS COME TO CHRIST IN 1-11

The number eleven might not mean much to most people. But for a while now nearly every time I look at the clock it reads 11:11. I am writing this post on 1-11-2011. I believe we are in the eleventh hour. In plain English, Jesus said that He would return to the earth to be with His people forever which would be the twelfth hour, and He gave a lot of clues as to what the world would look like in the days nearing His return. Now I'm not one of those crazies that places dates on when Jesus is coming back, but I believe we are right at the door of when Christ will return, and that 2011 is going to be an important year in the history of mankind.

The book of Revelation talks about two separate harvests that will be taking place surrounding the return of Christ. I believe that the first of these two harvests in Revelation 11:14-16 deals with a great harvest of souls that will come into the Kingdom of God through a personal, hand-holding relationship with Jesus Christ. The second of the two harvests in Revelation 11:17-20 deals with God's judgment that will take place upon the earth. I don't find it coincidence that in the first few weeks of 2011, we have seen 11 skaters give their lives to Christ. One skater prayed to receive Jesus a few weeks ago after Ricky had given the message, then last night ten more guys raised their hands and prayed, asking Jesus to enter into their lives. Amazing! And the really cool thing is that the guys who are teaching through the gospel of Mark every week and leading people to Jesus are skaters who gave their lives to Christ through FacePlant SkateChurch five years ago when we first started FacePlant Ministries. We had a huge turnout at our first skate competition since moving SkateChurch locations to Ripzu Skate Park. Hero Yoon brought a crew from the FP Lab in Tigard. JESUS HEALS A MAN WITH LEPROSY

Mark 1:40-42, "A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, 'If you are willing, you can make me clean.' Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man, 'I am willing,' he said. 'Be clean!' Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured." (NIV)

We continued our teaching through the gospel of Mark last night at FacePlant SkateChurch. We have been doing our best to come up with relevant ways to teach the skaters and spectators who come out every week about the life of Jesus. Last week, Curtis brought in a weed-wacker and a gas can to illustrate how prayer is like fuel; without fuel the weed-wacker doesn't work. Similarly, without prayer, our life as Christ-followers just won't be productive. We are sticking with small group questions for the older teens, but are doing more object lessons with the younger youth during our small groups in order to continue to drive the teaching home with them.

This week, I went into detail by dramatizing what a person with leprosy had to go through in Jesus' time. According to Leviticus 13:45, lepers by law were forced to tear their clothes, have absolutely no human contact, hold their hands over their mouths and scream, "tame (taw-may)!tame (taw-may)! which in the Hebrew language means, "unclean! unclean!" What a horrible existence to be ostricized from their community, as well as being ritually unclean and not being able to worship God in the temple. Leprosy is like sin. Sin makes us feel distanced from God and causes rifts in our relationships with others as well. Yet this man with leprosy begs for Jesus to heal him. Then, after possibly years of not ever feeling a human touch, Jesus reaches out His hand and touches the leper. Unheard of in that day! Right after this Jesus says the word and the man was physically healed of the leprosy. But look at the emotional healing that must have taken place when Jesus, moved with compassion and breaking the law, touches the man.

God cares so much about every detail of our lives. His healing is holistic; desiring to heal us in body, soul and spirit. I ended with another story and eight young people raised their hands asking for prayer; some to receive Christ for the first time and others to rededicate their lives to Christ. It was a wondeful night at SkateChurch tonight. We had great discussion in our small group as well. James, Chad and Ricky took the younger skaters and had a giant group game to further illustrate the truth of what was taught in Mark 1:40-45. Pam Knowles

Pam has been a vital part of FacePlant SkateChurch over the past couple of years. She actually began to become involved at SkateChurch back in 2008 when I had asked her if she could help check youth in every week when we opened the doors. When Aiden took the reins as FP SkateChurch Pastor in early 2009, Pam stepped up and began to do all of our logistical paperwork; keeping track of who was there week in and week out, updating our roles, getting waivers completed and filed, as well as overseeing all the concession sales every week and making sure the money got to our missionaries. She continues to do all of these things as we have moved to Ripzu skate park, but she and Lee Ann also are very purposeful about discipling any girls who come to SkateChurch every week. You are awesome, Pam! Thanks for all of your sacrificial hard work over the years.

Lee Ann started coming out to help at FacePlant SkateChurch last year and has been such a blessing. Not only does she assist in checking in skaters and spectators every week, but also happens to be a nurse. Believe me, we see plenty of cuts and scrapes at FacePlant SkateChurch weekly, and Lee Ann cleans and dresses these wounds and cares so much for the skateboarding youth community here in Vancouver. She and Pam both take the girls who come in to SkateChurch under their wing and lead them in small group questions, as well as interact with them throughout the night. Thank you so much, Lee Ann, for all that you bring to the table at FacePlant Ministries! We are blessed to have you.

Teaching the Cub Scouts about Skateboarding and Safety

So Brett asked if a few of us from FacePlant Ministries could come out to the Cub Scouts in Vancouver, WA and teach them about skateboarding and safety so that they could earn their Skateboarding Belt Loop. Brian, Jonas and I taught three groups of Scouts and even had them put on helmets and skate a little. It was a lot of fun. Brett handed out the Skateboarding Belt Loops after each kid passed the safety section and actually rode a skateboard.

More And More Youth Coming Every Week

FacePlant SkateChurch Grows In Numbers

That's right! We are super-stoked at the growth we are seeing at FacePlant SkateChurch every week. We have been meeting at Ripzu Skate Park for one month now, and the amount of paying skaters has gone up literally every week:

Week #1: 18

Week #2: 21

Week #3: 24

Week #4: 27

These numbers don't include staff, interns or spectators. Now we're not all hung up on numbers at FacePlant Ministries, but it is still exciting to us that more and more youth are coming out to SkateChurch every week. A buzz is being created, and rightly so. FacePlant SkateChurch freakin' rocks, man. We have so much fun skating, learning and talking about God, and skating some more. Our small groups are going well. Another young man gave his life to Christ two weeks ago, making two kids giving their lives to Christ since we started meeting at Ripzu. Our staff and interns are on a rotation teaching through the gospel of Mark. Ricky spoke on Mark 1:14-20 last night. We measure success at FacePlant Ministries not on how many kids come out to SkateChurch every week, but how many lives are changed. So please pray for us at FacePlant Ministries, that we would continue to see this kind of success.

I have been filming and will be putting out a new SkateChurch video pretty soon. So keep an eye out for that, as well as news about a skate competition we will have at Ripzu on a Monday night coming up in December. You won't want to miss it. Check out some new pics from Ripzu below.

First SkateChurch Night at Ripzu Skatepark

Last night we had our first ever FacePlant SkateChurch at the new Ripzu Skatepark in Vancouver, Washington. It went really well and we had a good turnout of over 20 youth...many new faces since we;ve been gone overseas for the last couple of years, but some familiar faces of young people who we have led to Christ in the years past.

Pam, Leanne, Chad, Lyndse and I all helped check the kids in as we added a step in the process by the youth having to have a Ripzu waiver completed and signed by a parent. Tonight, seeing as it was the first night in the new facility, we handed out raffle tickets to all the skaters who paid at the front and raffled off sticker packs, t-shirts and a snowboarding DVD. James, Ricky and Curtis who are other staff members all hung out with the youth as well. Even Brett, senior pastor of Whipple Creek Church brought his two sons to skate. Brett (as well as the rest of us) are stoked that Whipple Creek Church has now officially gone multi-campus.

Ripzu Skatepark has two sections. The bigger section has a sweet mini-ramp/partial bowl with a vert-wall with banks, stairs, hubba and step-up. The smaller section has a spine, quarter pipes on both sides, a small picnic bench section in the middle as well as a box and rail that we let them use from FacePlant Ministries. We all skated for the first hour and a half or so, then gathered together in the smaller section for the Bible teaching. I taught about the sacrifice that God the Father made for us by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die for us by using an illustration:

A father who was a draw bridge operator had brought his only son to work with him one day. The father showed his son around the place and then just let him run around wherever he wanted to while he operated the draw bridge. The father got the call to lower the draw bridge as a passenger train was on it's way, so he began to close the draw bridge. As the draw bridge began to close, he heard the sound of his son screaming as he had gotten his body caught in the huge gears that opens and closes the draw bridge. The father had to make a decision on the spot as to whether he would stop the draw bridge, save his own son, and allow the train to de-rail, killing all the passengers on board OR to sacrifice his own son, allowing the gears to crush him to death while the train with its' passengers crossed safely to the other side. The father let the draw bridge close as he heard the gears literally crush his son to death and and he looked into the windows of the train that was crossing with tears in his eyes, he saw some different scenarios. In one window he saw a heroin junky shooting up. In another window he saw an employer committing adultery with on of his employees. In another window he saw a middle school skater talking back to his parents. In another window he saw a high school student losing her virginity. The sacrifice the father had made by giving up his only son was for people who had no clue what they were being saved from and who were living lives quite different from the young, innocent boy who had lost his life in exchange for theirs.

The Scriptures say that "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." We are like the folks on that train who have been provided a way of salvation through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross...His life in exchange for ours. All we must do is believe in Him, confess our sins to Him, and ask Him into our lives. ONE YOUNG PERSON last night did just that. He raised his hand and asked Jesus Christ into his heart. What a wonderful way to start off this new era of FacePlant SkateChurch! We will be continuing to teach the young people about who Jesus is by teaching through the gospel of Mark on Monday nights. And the cool thing is, it won't just be me teaching, as was the case for the most part during the first three years of SkateChurch. Our other staff members and interns (who gave their lives to Christ through SkateChurch and are now adults being raised up to lead SkateChurch into the future) will be on a rotation every week. AND we will be having small groups and small group qustions again every week, which makes it more of an intimate setting where the youth can be free to dialogue and ask questions. We are super-excited as FacePlant SkateChurch continues to be a vital ministry to the youth skateboarding community of Vancouver, Washington.

A huge shout-out to Chris for opening up Ripzu Skatepark to us at FacePlant Ministries and partnering with us. Only good things to come from this partnership.

FP SkateChurch RE-CAP, January 2009-August 2010

Aiden Franklin took the reins of FacePlant Ministries in January 2009 as Christian Jung, founder, and his family moved overseas as missionaries. Aiden served as SkateChurch pastor until he and his wife moved to Texas in April 2010 where he has family. During that time SkateChurch went through some transition. This always happens as ministries take on the flavor of those who lead the ministry. During this time SkateChurch changed from meeting on Thursday nights to meeting on Tuesday nights. The structure stayed similar, where there was always skating and Bible teaching, in fact, during those 15 months more than 10 young people gave their lives to Christ. The sponsored team transitioned more into a group who hung out with Aiden, going to many skateparks together and doing a second California skate tour for one week during Summer 2009. Small groups at SkateChurch began to happen every other week and then tapering off altogether to where it was more of a verse by verse Bible teaching. Aiden was super-pastoral with the youth who came out to SkateChurch and was, and still is a friend to everyone. The numbers of youth at SkateChurch have always fluxuated over the years. Many new kids came out and numbers leveled out to around 30 kids every Tuesday night.

After Aiden moved, Joe Popi and Steve Miller ran SkateChurch for the next couple of months with a rotation of speakers including Ricky and Curtis. Chad Stevens took the reins at SkateChurch and has been overseeing it until now. Another skater named Zach Barazowski also helped out from the days when Aiden was SkateChurch pastor through when Chad was running SkateChurch. Some new ramps were given to FacePlant Ministries by Bad Monkey Skate Shop recently. Neither Joe, Steve or Chad are skaters themselves and have done a great job to help SkateChurch keep running.

Christian Jung and his family have moved back to Vancouver from Africa on furlough from missions in August 2010 and will return to the foreign mission field again. He will be taking the riens once again in hopes to take FacePlant Ministries and SkateChurch to the next level, while getting back to the roots of the early FacePlant days where hundreds of kids would come, skate, and give their lives to Christ. Through all of the transitions, God has continued to use FacePlant Ministries to His glory. Thank you all, who have been a part of this great movement.

What's up fellas? I miss shredding with you guys, and I pray for you all the time. I hope that you are all staying so close to Jesus. I can't believe I remembered the password to sign in to this new FacePlant Ministries blog. Anyway, wanted to drop you a line to let you know I bought a new Mini-Logo complete in Krakow a couple of weeks ago, and have able to do some outreach at local skateparks here in Poland. The first one I have hit up is in a city called, "Radomsko." It is about 40 minutes south of where I live, but I often minister at a church in that city. The locals there are all very chill and I have already made a lot of friends there. I have also put together a short video of the locals ripping it up in their city. There's even a part at the end of the video with me skating. It's like the first time I've skated for six months because I didn't have a board. Anyway, enjoy the video. I thought you would like to know I am spreading the Word of God and shredding all around the world. Peace my brothers.

Taking The Mantle

God has done some pretty amazing things in my life in this last year. I quit the music touring lifestyle, right as things started to take off, because I felt God had a different direction for my life even though I wasn't sure what that was yet.

On my off time of touring, I would hold a sort of "band church" at my house on wednesday afternoons. It was just for people involved in the music industry of the NorthWest to be able to connect with other believers in the scene because it seemed hard to be encouraged in your faith in this industry. That is when my good friend Andrew Young (youth pastor at Whipple Creek) started telling me about Christian Jung and the help that was needed at Whipple with worship and skate church. I checked it out, loved it, instantly felt connected and instantly started getting involved. Skate Church in Portland was such a huge part of bringing me up in my young faith, I was super excited to get involved with FacePlant.

The kids are awesome, the church is in full support and I couldn't be happier that I trusted God to take this new direction with my life. I also feel super blessed to have met Christian and his family because they are amazing people. Simply being around Christian can make you feel uplifted, humbled and want to be a better person. Being around his heart in the last 6 months has really done a work in my life. This is one of the many things that he is doing in and through me and I am feeling super blessed to be a part of his work and this ministry. We love you Christian, we will miss you terribly!

Passing The Mantle.

In the Old Testament we read about some pretty cool people. Two of those people were Elijah and Elisha. Both of them were prophets of God. Elijah was a man of God who performed many miracles and shared God's message with people. When Elijah's time was up, it was time to find someone to take his place in ministry. His replacement's name was Elisha. Elisha asked for a double portion of the anointing that God had upon Elijah's life that empowered him to do many miracles and tell many people God's message. Elijah was actually taken up to heaven without dying. When he was taken up, Elijah's mantle fell off of him. Elisha picked up Elijah's mantle and received a double portion of the anointing that was on Elijah's life.

I have been blessed to be the person who happened to be in the right place at the right time to spearhead FacePlant Ministries. I have been the SkateChurch Pastor for the last three years. We have seen God do many miraculous things at FacePlant Ministries. We've seen over 200 young people give their lives to Jesus Christ and ask Him into their lives. We have seen miraculous healings when we have prayed for the sick. We have seen many skaters even receive gifts of the Holy Spirit. More recently, we have seen our sponsored skaters leading their peers in prayer to receive Jesus Christ. We've been on many road trips to many skateparks in Ol' Bessy. We've seen many Taco Bell hot sauce on car handle incidents, along with other crazy practical jokes I won't mention. We've had good times and not so good times. But overall, we've had the time of our life.

I am passing on the mantle to my good friend, Aiden Franklin, as my family and I are leaving to be full-time missionaries in Poland and then in Africa. I pray for a double portion of what God has done at FacePlant Ministries over the past few years to be upon Aiden. I pray that our sponsored skaters and other skaters from SkateChurch will blaze new trails in the Kingdom of God. I pray that someday, we will be able to meet up again, when we return to visit after a few years. If not, I look forward to meeting around the throne of God someday in heaven. I feel so blessed and so unworthy to have been a part of something so great. I love you guys and will never forget you. My last Sunday will be this Sunday, January 18th. I would love for you guys to come to our church service at Whipple Creek Church this Sunday from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm to say goodbye. We are going to have cake, too. Plus you will get to see my cry like a baby as I say goodbye to you. If you have ever been a part of FacePlant Ministries in any way, we would love to have you out. I know that the message of Jesus Christ has impacted many of your lives and I know that what He has done in your lives is going to be a great foundation for which you will build the rest of your lives upon.
